Overview

Lesskeys is a voice-to-text transcription application for macOS that processes all data locally on your device. This privacy policy explains what data Lesskeys accesses and how it is handled.

Data Collection

Lesskeys does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data.

• No user accounts or registration required
• No analytics or tracking
• No crash reporting to external services
• No advertising
• No cookies or web tracking
• No server-side processing

Audio Data

Lesskeys accesses your microphone solely to perform voice-to-text transcription. Audio data is:

• Processed entirely on your device using locally-stored AI models
• Never transmitted over the internet
• Never stored permanently — audio buffers are discarded immediately after transcription
• Never shared with any third party

Transcription History

Transcription results are stored locally on your device in the application's support directory. This data:

• Never leaves your device
• Is accessible only to you
• Can be exported or deleted at any time through the app

Clipboard Data

Lesskeys's optional clipboard manager monitors your system clipboard to provide clipboard history functionality. Clipboard data is:

• Stored locally on your device only
• Never transmitted over the internet
• Deletable at any time through the app

AI Models

Lesskeys downloads AI models from HuggingFace and GitHub when you first select them. This is the only network activity the app performs. After models are downloaded:

• No further network access is required
• The app functions completely offline
• No data is sent to model providers

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your Mac:

• AI Models: ~/Library/Application Support/Lesskeys/Models/
• Transcription History: ~/Library/Application Support/Lesskeys/
• Clipboard History: ~/Library/Application Support/Lesskeys/
• Recordings: ~/Documents/Lesskeys/
• Preferences: macOS UserDefaults (local)

Third-Party Services

Lesskeys does not integrate with, send data to, or receive data from any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks for product features.

The Direct (non-Mac App Store) edition uses two narrowly-scoped third-party services for billing and updates only:

• Gumroad — processes one-time purchases of Lesskeys and issues license keys. When you activate a license, Lesskeys sends the license key to api.gumroad.com to verify it; Gumroad's response (purchase date, refund/dispute status) determines whether the key is valid. Your audio, transcripts, recordings, and clipboard data are never sent to Gumroad. See Gumroad's privacy policy.
• GitHub Pages (Sparkle update feed) — the Direct edition periodically fetches an XML feed at lesskeys.com/appcast.xml to check for new versions. This request includes only the standard HTTP user-agent and the current app version; it does not include your license key, account information, or any audio/transcript data.

The Mac App Store edition does not use Gumroad or Sparkle. Purchases and updates are handled entirely by Apple.

Children's Privacy

Lesskeys does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

Any changes to this privacy policy will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
