Where is the app? I don't see a window.

Lesskeys is a menu bar app. Look for the waveform icon in the top-right of your screen (the macOS menu bar). Left-click it to open the main window.

How do I start transcribing?

Press your hotkey (default: Option+Space) to start recording. Press it again to stop. The transcribed text is copied to your clipboard, ready to paste (Cmd+V) into any app. The Direct (non-App Store) edition can optionally auto-paste it for you if you grant Accessibility permission.

Does Lesskeys send my audio to the cloud?

No. All transcription happens locally on your Mac using AI models stored on your device. Nothing is ever uploaded. The only network activity is downloading models on first use.

Where does my transcribed text go?

Every transcription is copied to your clipboard — just paste with Cmd+V into any app. The Direct (non-App Store) edition can additionally auto-paste for you: grant Accessibility permission in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and add Lesskeys.

Which model should I choose?

For most users, Whisper Base (142MB) is a great starting point — fast and accurate. If you need higher accuracy, try Whisper Small or Large V3 Turbo. For English-only dictation, Parakeet CTC is extremely fast.

Can I use Lesskeys on Intel Macs?

Yes, via Rosetta 2. Apple Silicon Macs will get better performance thanks to Metal GPU acceleration.

How do I uninstall Lesskeys?

Drag Lesskeys from Applications to Trash. To remove all data, also delete ~/Library/Application Support/Lesskeys/ and ~/Documents/Lesskeys/.
